What are the things you tell yourself on a regular basis? What are the phrases in your head that help you know that you’ve got this, or everything is going to be OK? Come on, I know that you talk to yourself! You know how I know that…. cause I do it too, in fact, we all do it!

Talking to yourself is totally normal, and in fact, having positive self-talk can be all you need to help get you through new experiences, or difficult situations.  One small trick for staying positive with your self-talk is to think about some common phrases that you tell yourself and start to adopt them as your personal mottos. Having a motto (or a few) can be useful in so many ways.

I have a few motto’s that I typically refer to throughout my life experiences. I’d like to share with you my newest motto and what it means to me, and how it creates a spark of empowerment that makes me feel unstoppable; and that I have the power, confidence, and ENERGY to do amazing things.

Finding one of my newest motto,  actually kind of happened by accident. I was shopping for a gift for my mom last Mother’s Day (in June-hey, no judging!)  As I was looking around in a cute little gift shop, I came across a bracelet that had a motto written on the card stock it was attached to. The motto read, You are Unstoppable.

To me, this was everything! I didn’t know earlier that day that I needed such a motto. Earlier that day, I had felt pretty positive, hopeful, etc. But when I came across this motto, I thought to myself,

“Dang! I am Unstoppable!”

and it was then that I knew I needed this bracelet to reinforce this feeling of confidence, strength, courage, and energy more consistently in my life.

On a side note- I think it’s important to share;  When I saw the bracelet I did first think of my mom and the personal strength that she possesses.  I did end up getting this bracelet as a late mother’s day gift for my mom and needless to say, she loved the gift! In fact, she loved it so much that she wanted to buy a second one as a backup should this one ever break.

As I purchased the two bracelets, I quickly started to think, dang- I could buy this for so many women I know and then immediately my brain started listing them in my head- but then my cheap self quickly took over these thoughts, and I reverted to my original plan to purchase just two…..OK back to the point, right!

For me now, not only do I feel stronger and empowered when I look at my bracelet by I also start to believe that I am unstoppable. This motto is one that helps to give me the belief for what I know is possible however; don’t always feel confidently or as consistently as I should.

For me,  confidence is something that ebbs and flows. I think like most people when starting something new having personal confidence can have some room to grow.   Fear of failure or fear of judgment from others can impede on personal confidence and hold you back from your potential. For me, as I embark on a new journey, this motto was exactly what I needed and has given me the confidence, energy, drive, courage, and excitement to keep me moving forward and staying true to my goals and beliefs for the future.

Another motto that I live by, is “It’s all going to work out.”  This motto has been with me for a long time. It’s kind of just been a part of me, and who I’ve become as an adult. I guess I could ask my parents, how long they think I’ve lived by this motto. If I had to guess, I’m sure that they’ve noticed it as a part of me, at least as far back as high school.

This motto as I mentioned, is really part of who I am as a person.  I don’t stress over small things and with this motto I know that I have the power to handle whatever comes my way. This motto and attitude toward life have probably aggravated my friends and family from time to time, but I think they’ve come around and have started to embrace it too.

I say that this motto might have caused a little aggravation for others around me, as they’ve shared with me that they’ve felt this attitude of mine can feel as though I am lacking care or sensitivity to things that I’m apart of however; that would be to the contrary. This motto for me offers hope, and belief that all will work out. Maybe not in the plan that we hope for, or is most preferred or comfortable to us but rather-what is reality and understanding that we will have the strength to persevere whatever obstacle, loss, or change we are faced with.

Motto’s can be used for a variety of reasons. They can offer of strength, courage, inspiration, hope, encouragement, and so much more.  I have found that motto’s start to become who you are and who you want to be. Having a motto can also assist you in feeling prepared for all that you are a part of in the variety of life that we experience. For me having a motto is like having a extra set of keys when you lose ’em. Having the spare set of keys allows you to still carry on in the meantime of the unexpected or what might not have been planned.  Having a motto offers you confidence when you aren’t directly looking for it and propels you to feel more ,and be more.

Think about all of the self talk and messages you tell yourself on a daily basis. Are they uplifting? Are they positive? Are they encouraging? Think about what messages you can tell yourself when you feel like you need a little pep talk to know that all will be OK or that you can tackle a task at hand.

Now—you’re starting to generate your own authentic mottos! 🙂  Refer to them and reflect on what feelings they bring for you, and how they work to inspire or support you. Then, my friend, USE them!

Get comfortable with talking to yourself, and using your own mottos to be the positive self talk that your brain needs to hear!

What will be your newest motto?

Not sure what will inspire you? Don’t let this be one more thing that adds any stress to your plate! Just pick one and try it on for a while…or borrow one of mine! See how it fits, how it makes you feel. The best part is that you can change your motto to inspire for what ever season of live you are living or what ever day you are facing!

Where will you write it down?

YOU NEED TO WRITE IT DOWN. Yes, motto’s are great to tell ourselves and store in our brains for when we need them; but new motto’s have not yet gone through the vetting process. Our brains need to see them just as much as they need to hear them for the motto to begin to take flight and work it’s magic. A few of my favorite places to write my motto’s would be the white board in the kitchen or the journal that I keep near by. Actually, depending on the day you’ll probably find it written down in most places.

How will you plan to use it?

Motto’s can truly become a way that we see the world and who we are in it. I’d encourage you to use your motto however; you see fit as long as it does what it’s intended to do.

Rooting for you,

Kelly
